IT Through The Decades - Olivia Munn

Olivia Munn, the foxy geek hostess from Attack of the Show (G4 TV) and Playboy Magazine (Feb 2007), is in a new viral YouTube video for Dell Computer called "IT Through The Decades."

The clip helps promote Dell's servers by poking fun at all the poor IT related decisions companies have made the past few decades (1978-2008). In the clip, Mike the IT guy suggests "new" technologies like databases and bar codes and gets made fun of by his colleagues.

Olivia doesn't have a ton of lines but she definitely adds some sex appeal to the YouTube clip. Warning: It's a little long (especially for a "viral" clip). Olivia fans will also probably get a kick out of seeing her dressed up in retro 70's and 80's outfits. You can save this clip off YouTube by following these instructions.

If you're looking for more Olivia Munn, just Google search her name. YouTube is full of clips of her doing things like riding a Hawaii Chair, seductively eating hotdogs and recovering from a baby oil slip. Too bad she's dating that turd biscuit Bryan Greenberg from One Tree Hill.

Here's a link to the clip on YouTube in case the video above doesn't load.

The Evolution of Dance With Optimus Prime

The Evolution of Dance is the most-viewed YouTube video ever. In the video, Judson Laipply, a motivational speaker, dances to a soundtrack that plays through various popular songs ranging from Elvis Presley to MC Hammer and Michael Jackson. As of February 2008, The Evolution of Dance has over 76 million views on YouTube, and is the most viewed video on the site.

Here's a parody of The Evolution of Dance performed by Optimus Prime from The Transformers called "The Evolution of Dance With Optimus Prime." Keep your eyes peeled for the subtle robotic crotch thrusts during YMCA. It might not be appropriate for younger Decepticons.

Gotta love the ending. Optimus Prime doesn't like the Macarena. He transforms and leaves the stage.

Surprisingly, this clip is not from the popular stop-animation comedy show Robotic Chicken. The guy who made it is named Patrick Boivin. Seth Green should give him a job.

Frozen New York Stunt Confuses Grand Central Station

On a cold Saturday morning in January, a flash mob of Improv Everywhere Agents descended on New York City's Grand Central train station and left the entire concourse in a state of complete confusion.

Flash Mob - a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual action for a brief period of time, then quickly disperse.

What did they do that had everyone so confused? This flash mob of 200+ people suddenly froze in place at the exact same second for 5 minutes in the Main Concourse of Grand Central Station. The frozen poses ranged from people tying their shoes and eating to someone who just dropped a stack of papers. Everyone from tourists to cops stopped in amazement to try to figure out what was happening around them.

My favorite part is the guy trying to drive his garbage cart. He sounds like such a baby when he gets on his radio to call for help.

{Beep} {Beep} {Beep}
"My cart is stuck. People are standing still.
{Sob}
"I need help."

Dateline To Catch A Predator - Taser Accident

Call me crazy, but when a group of Police officers approach me holding guns and start yelling "Get down on the ground," I'm gonna listen. This guy... not so much.

Watch this clip first from the popular American TV series "Dateline: To Catch A Predator" (dateline.msnbc.com), then read my explanation. I've analyzed this YouTube clip frame by frame and watched it like 50 times. I think I've got it all figured out.

If the embedded video below doesn't load, you can watch the clip here.

The perp unknowingly shows up at a "Dateline: To Catch A Predator" sting house looking for a sexual encounter with an underage teen he met in a chat room. After Chris Hansen pops out and basically tells him that he's on national TV, the guy tries to put on his shoes and walk out the front door to freedom. But the cops are outside.

USPS Hates Netflix Envelopes

According to an article in the NY Times, the USPS isn't happy with Netflix because their red envelopes must be sorted by hand. The US Postal Service estimates that the manual sorting of 1.6 million Netflix envelopes per day is costing them about $21 million a year.

As a result, the USPS wants to add a 17 cent surcharge to every package that requires hand sorting - including Netflix DVD envelopes. Tony Wible, a Citigroup analyst who wrote the report, says that the income that Netflix receives per subscriber would fall from $1.05 to 35 cents and that Blockbuster’s return mailing envelopes do not cause this problem. This could make a big competitive difference for the 2 companies.

"We know that Netxflix, which mails out about 1.6 million movies a day, is clever enough to create a redesigned mailer sometime soon." ~ GearLive.com

Leg Lamp Replica from A Christmas Story

This half-scale reproduction of the Leg Lamp from the 1983 movie A Christmas Story isn't completely accurate, but for a mere $40 bucks it's probably close enough for most Christmas Story fans. And honestly, it's smaller scale will be more apt to blend in with the average living room. It certainly does with mine, never failing to draw smiling comments when a new guest first sees it.

I wonder how long it would take for HR to give me a call to "talk" if I brought my Leg Lamp to work?

My friend has been saying for years, in jest, how he'd love to have the Leg Lamp to place in the window of his house, for all the neighbors to see. And his wife has sworn that it would never happen... now she is going to kill us for getting him this for Christmas!

If only Amazon.com would mark the outside of the package "Fragile" so you too can become "The Old Man" for a nostalgic moment when the Leg Lamp arrives at your door.

Download YouTube Videos for Your iPhone and iPod

UPDATE: YouTube has reworked their site in response to this article. If you get an error when trying to download a YouTube video, please try some of the plug-ins and scripts listed in step #3.

YouTube.com is a great resource. Not many sites allows users to freely upload, view, and share video clips like YouTube does. YouTube even lets users easily post videos on their blogs and personal web sites. But because anyone can upload a video clip on YouTube, copyright violations are rampant.

In an effort to prevent the widespread distribution of illegal copied video files, YouTube encodes its video files in the Macromedia Flash format, which prevents viewers from downloading files and making digital copies.

Here's a step-by-step MethodShop.com tutorial on how to rip video files off YouTube and convert them for an iPod Video, Apple TV, iTunes or iPhone. This trick will work on Mac or PC using Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer.

Merry Miller TV Disaster

Merry Miller is the Senior Programming Director for The Learning Annex in New York, USA. She was named as one of the 40 "rising stars" in 2007 by Crain's magazine and is a former Miss Dallas. But that's where this "rising star" starts to fade.

In late July of 2007, Merry conducted a poorly done interview with Holly Hunter on ABC News Now's segment "What's The Buzz." Since its broadcast, the disastrous interview has been heavily viewed on YouTube [link] and other online video sites.

Not only were the interview questions awful, but for some reason Merry decides to phonetically read off the teleprompter - like a child. She also gives the wrong month for Holly Hunter's show premiere (June instead of July) and accidentally encourages viewers to go to nbcnews.com not ABC News.com.

Merry Miller, welcome to the TV Disaster Hall of Fame! I'm sure NBC loved the plug.

Daft Hands Becomes Internet Sensation

Have you heard about the YouTube clip called "Daft Hands" yet? It's single-shot music video set to the the Daft Punk song "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger." One camera. One shot. Two hands. Doesn't really sound that exciting does it? Trust me, it's worth watching. The beginning is dull. Just hang in there until the lyrics start. "Daft Hands" was featured in the Best of YouTube Video Podcast yesterday and, as of this morning, had over a million views on YouTube.

Was Drunk Hasselhoff Video Just Promotion?

I thought there was something fishy about this David Hasselhoff drunk tape nonsense. It smelled like very clever publicity to me, though why anyone would want to be filmed drunk and slobbering over a Wendy's cheeseburger and potentially hurt his relations with his family is a mystery.

But guess what? The Hoff has an autobiography coming out May 15! I'm sure it's just a coincidence though. ;)

The title, by the way, is Don't HassleThe Hoff. Jeez, it's one thing for others to call you "The Hoff," but calling yourself that?

The book has a lot of (supposedly) juicy details, including Hasselhoff's revelation that he knows that Baywatch was a sexist show.

Spider-Man 3 Makes Record Breaking $148 Million Over Wknd

Spider-Man 3 made a record breaking $148 million this past weekend. The film now holds the top spot for the most successful movie opening of all time. Sony Pictures, the studio who produced the film, was so happy with the North American box office results they announced that Spider-Man will return for at least three more movies.

Sony Pictures chief executive Michael Lynton had this to say to the BBC on Sunday night:

"Everybody has every intention of making a fourth, a fifth and a sixth and on and on." There would be "as many as we can make good stories for..."

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, Spider-Man 3 now holds the record for the most successful opening weekend in history, making $148m (£74m).

Here are the other films that round out the top ten:
  1. Spider-Man 3 ($148m)
  2. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($136m)
  3. Spider-Man ($115m)
  4. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith ($108)
  5. Shrek 2 ($108m)
  6. X-Men: The Last Stand ($102m)
  7. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire ($102m)
  8. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ($93m)
  9. The Matrix Reloaded ($91m)
  10. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ($90m)

Michael Lynton went on to say: "When everybody comes up for air, we can think about how to make the next [Spider-Man film]" The box office results "way exceed our expectations."

I just hope they stay with director Sam Rami. Most superhero franchises are already ruined by the 3rd film (Batman, X-Men, Superman, etc.), but Rami seems to have found a good balance between between story and special effects to keep the franchise fresh and entertaining.

Outer Space Astronauts Survey

Sci Fi.com and Sci Fi Magazine are asking Internet users if they should pick up a new sci-fi comedy called Outer Space Astronauts.

Visitors are given access to 5 vignettes from the show on the SCI FI Pulse Broadband Network and asked to fill out a survey explaining what they think. Sci Fi says it will also take traffic into account when deciding whether or not to pick up the show.

Think you know how to program the American Sci Fi Channel better than NBC Universal? After they started airing wrestling on the Sci Fi Channel... who doesn't.

Bill Gates Hates Apple Ads

Recently Bob Garfield, from AdAge, got to interview Bill Gates during the Corbis Creativity 2.0 panel in Manhattan. Garfield asked Gates about a number of topics from Vista to IPTV. He also tried to get Gates to comment on a very sensitive topic... Apple's "Get a Mac" advertising campaign. The campaign features actor/author John Hodgman who looks like Bill Gates and personifies a PC.

As you can imagine, Bill Gates is not amused by the ads. Here's the portion of the interview transcript where Garfield asks Gates about the ads. Enjoy:

GARFIELD: I want to ask you one more thing: Those Mac ads -- how do you feel about the John Hodgman character?

GATES: I can't comment on someone else's ad.

GARFIELD: OK ... but he's you.

GATES: Yeah, I'm not gonna comment on someone else's ad.

GARFIELD: OK, well, Bill Gates, thank you so much for joining us.

(Silence)

GARFIELD: Can I just have a clean goodbye?

(Silence)

GARFIELD: OK, can you just say goodbye? Thank you or goodbye or something like that?

GATES: Goodbye.

Worst Acting Ever - David Caruso

Here's a 7 minute YouTube montage of the worst acting ever printed on film. David Caruso is ridiculous. 9 out of 10 times he'll put on his dorky sunglasses right before he says one of his lame one liners on the US crime drama C.S.I. Miami. How sad is it when your character's dry charm and self-confident appeal are a direct result of a pair of sunglasses.

Seriously, when did talking slow and putting on sunglasses become "acting."

David Caruso's bad acting and dorky 'Sunglasses of Justice' would probably make for a good drinking game. The only problem is, his acting is so bad that he makes C.S.I. Miami unwatchable.

Heroes: Zeroes Auditions

Got a special talent or ability? Apparently everyone does. It looks like more ordinary people with ordinary abilities have been discovered. Here's a clip from the open auditions for the American Sci-Fi series Heroes on NBC.

The clip features some guy pulling a chain out of his nose (burn out), a woman playing the flute with her nose (don't laugh, that's someones mom), a guy who can pop beans out of his eye (that's sexy), an Indian woman who can talk with a perfect Indian dialect (amazing!), a psycho who can stab a potato with a straw (very scary), and more...

I'm pretty sure no one from these open auditions will be saving the world with their "special" talents.

Alanis Morissette Covers My Humps

In this clip from YouTube, Alanis Morissette covers the Black Eyed Peas song "My Humps". Seem like a strange paring? It is. But it's on purpose. I think dcmjzero put it best when he posted this comment on Digg.com: "Who would have thought the best way to make fun of a song would be to sing it seriously?"

You may not have realized how poorly written "My Humps" was before watching this clip. Honestly, Fergie isn't known for crafting thoughtful lyrics. I think there's a line in her new song Glamorous that goes like this: "Taco Bell. Raw as hell". Actually I take it all back. Fergie is the Shakespeare of modern times.

The Real Wedding Crashers

Like pulling pranks on your friends? What about at your own wedding? American broadcast network, NBC, has a new reality TV series called The Real Wedding Crashers.

Inspired by the feature film Wedding Crashers (Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Christopher Walken), the premise of the show is simple. Wedding couples team up with five crashers to create the most awkward and uncomfortable wedding weekend possible.

The crash team consists of five improvisational performers who pretend to be various people in the wedding such as the pastor, the wedding planner, a waiter, a long lost friend, a tailor, and even an exterminator. The bride and groom are in on the fun as they assist the crashers in pulling pranks on their guests. Why would they do such a thing? Attended enough weddings in your lifetime and they all will start to blend together. Hopefully a "crashed" wedding will be one you will always remember.

I'm actually pretty excited to see this show. It premieres sometime in April (2007) on NBC.

Retro Games In Stop Motion

Pes from EatPES.com frequently makes stop motion short films and commercials, but their latest work titled "Game Over" is a masterpiece.

Game Over is a medley of several 1980s arcade games including a stop motion version of Centipede done with cup cakes and a pizza and pillow case version of Pac-Man. Seriously, it's great stuff and will be one of the easiest 5 star ratings you've ever given to a Youtube video.

If you get a chance, head over to Pes' site and watch some of the other stuff. I recommend the Bacardi commercial. Amazing work.

Heroes and Zeroes

Heroes is going digital. The hit American TV series on the the NBC network is relaunching its Web site with new interactive features coinciding with a batch of new original on-air episodes. NBC hopes the multiplatform strategy will deepen the "Heroes" mythos with additional content for Internet and mobile applications.

Some of these new digital offerings include a real-time, two-screen application that plays out on the PC along with each episode, commentary from cast members set to streamed episodes, and mobile content.

NBC is even making special viral clips to help promote Heroes on video sharing sites like Vmix and YouTube. The latest Heroes clip is a parody called "Zeroes" about ordinary people with relatively pointless abilities. Check it out on Vmix or YouTube. If you are a fan of the show you'll really enjoy it.

Videos by VMIX Member: NBC

Jeff Gaspin, president of NBC Universal Cable Entertainment and Digital Content had this to say about the new online presence for Heroes in The Hollywood Reporter: "Heroes has proven itself a hit on-air and online, and these extensions of rich, original content will allow our audience unprecedented access to new levels of the show as they dig deeper."

LCD Monitor vs Gun

When your computer's flat screen monitor breaks what should you do? You could attempt to replace the bad screen yourself... or grab the nearest BB gun and shoot it. Repeatedly.

Someone posted this video on Break.com of a LCD monitor being shot with a Tokyo Marui Desert Eagle BB gun. This guy didn't even bother to take the LCD monitor outside before shooting it. Either he has faith in his aiming, or he has little regard for his drywall.

Sex Predator: Busted AGAIN!

Wow! Is it really possible for people to be this dumb? This guy named Michael got busted on Dateline "To Catch a Predator" twice. I found the video of his 2nd bust on YouTube and almost fell out of my chair laughing. It was so good I figured I blog it for everyone else to enjoy.

The day after he gets out of court from the 1st time he got busted on Dateline "To Catch a Predator," he gets busted on Dateline again. How did this guy not learn his lesson the 1st time? When Chris Hansen walks out and calls Michael by name, Michael knows he's in trouble. All Michael can say is "oopsy" while he repeatedly rubs his head like he's trying to warm up his brain and figure a way out of this familiar situation. Well look on the bright side, at least Michael gets to see all his friends in jail again. I love this show.

Michael is a snappy dresser too. Guys, always remember to button the top button for the ladies... predator style.

American Idol judge Paula Abdul canceled a string of media interviews last Friday when an online video emerged of her slurring and gesticulating her way through a TV interview.

By the way, Abdul just announced her new reality show, Hey Paula, last week.
